  • The BIG Picnic

Opportunity To bring the community together to celebrate ahead of The King’s Coronation. A chance to put the spotlight on local retailers whilst encouraging exploration of the Fleet Street Quarter. Activities focussed on three core areas, Carter Lane, Breams Buildings & Gough Square. Ambition We created a PR worthy story to win social and media coverage and put the Fleet Street Quarter on the map as a top destination for celebrating the King's Coronation in London. We aimed to increase footfall and retailer engagement around the three core areas requested by the client. How Our designers worked to develop a fresh and contemporary visual identity to put the Coronation at the center of our artwork with subtle links to BID Fleet Street Quarter, our client. Pattern designer Bella Gomez worked with us on a customised flower print to link continuity across all 3x sites. For the “hero” site of Carter Lane we installed over 20x adjoining tables to create the illusion of one giant picnic table. This created the key picture moment for this site. Continuing with the floral theme we installed a number of 3m tall giant tulips, surrounded by clusters of astro-turf covered cube seating to further encourage community picnicking and add greenery to the site. A special appearance from commissioned flower & hedge performers brought unexpected moments of delight to guests, resulting in the perfect selfie moment. At Gough Square we curated a free pop-up stencil art class, complete with easels and aprons. Led by artist Bella Gomez this allowed visitors to create their own bespoke floral artwork to take away as a memento of the memorable occasion. At Gough Square we worked with another artist to create a giant colouring cube featuring British and Coronation related icons to encourage the public to participate in colouring-in the giant artwork - this proved very successful.

  • Get Your Royal On!

Opportunity Ahead of the King's Coronation, Kit and Caboodle were briefed by Four Communications and the New West End Company to design and create 3x interactive selfie moments that would celebrate the historic occasion in a playful way. These were to be placed around high-footfall sites around the London’s West End, principally Oxford Street. Bustling with tourists, shoppers and local office workers, we were challenged to capture the attention of a wide target audience within a limited area of footfall traffic. Ambition To design an interactive selfie moment that would encourage passing interaction and instagram shares by individuals, capturing the nation's joy for the upcoming Coronation. We achieved this by creating a striking visual moment that incorporated the traditional royal aesthetic but with a youthful twist, in order to achieve mass social media coverage and cross-generational social content capture. How Our own designers worked alongside artist Ruby Taylor to incorporate her bespoke artwork into aspects of the overarching designs. We commissioned pattern designer Bella Gomez to illustrate a bespoke floral pattern, inspired by the Coronation emblem. Pulling together both traditional and contemporary styles to create an asset that was instantly recognisable and associated with the King's Coronation whilst remaining photo-worthy was quite a challenge, but we achieved it. We created a 2m tall, double-sided, totem with a 3D throne featured on the front face, encouraging visitors to sit and pose beneath an illustrative crown. With the reverse featuring the iconic British telephone box offering a secondary photo moment for visitor interaction, this attracted a constant flow of attention from shoppers, tourists and residents alike - include a few adorable dog selfies, complete with crowns. Working with our client, a high rate of social media coverage was achieved.

  • Rewind, Reflect, Recharge...

Here at Kit and Caboodle, we live and breathe experience and we love to have fun with each other when we can. Our wellbeing is the engine that keeps our company turning. What is company culture if not “collective energy”? Coming out of an exciting autumn and winter that saw us building (amongst other projects) Curling Club for King’s Cross at Coal Drops Yard, an immersive destination experience for Icelandair, a pop up to celebrate Loungefly’s unique and beautiful products, the opening of Campari’s new HQ, two Big Weekends of free festivals at the Museum of London … and more spectacular Christmas trees than we could count, we were more than ready to enjoy a well deserved break. The New Year brings new opportunities and like all of our market partners in the events sector, it’s always a good time to re-group, re-evaluate and re-align our strategic path into 2023, taking on board existing trends, and inviting fresh ideas and new clients to create unforgettable experiences. CEO Tanya Clark had recently discovered a tranquil haven of shabby-chic design at the former Theobald’s estate; Birch Community. ‘An escape for the explorers', where interesting people can enjoy interesting moments and with one aim; To have fun. We chose Birch because it has become known as a serene getaway for creative types, paired with its sustainability ethos, we knew it was the perfect location for our team, allowing us to immerse ourselves in nature, have some fun and reconnect with one another. Imagine combining the stately elegance of what was the old manor with contemporary decor, unique art installations, pottery rooms and delicious sustainably sourced food – and you have the perfect venue for a Caboodle day… or two! Before playtime could begin, a series of discussions were brought to the table, and the team had fun batting around ideas and coming up with solutions and actions … because that’s what we do best. For us, work is play and we value each of the team's contributions to enable us to move forward, stronger and with extra energy for the year ahead. Each of the team had their own creative spark to offer. We discussed our company's culture, our values and what this means to us all. We approached new ways of thinking for our clients over a long lunch until it was time for some pottery. Picture a team of creatives, let loose in a room with a lot of wet clay! The prize has to go to our intern from Middlesex University, Ash, whose mug had a fine pair of breasts complete with nipples in support of the Free The Nipple protest against Facebook's online ban of photos featuring female nipples. The team enjoyed a wonderful supper, cocktails and many laughs before resting up for their morning Gong Bath. We were brought gently out of deep REM by the lyrical sound of Molly’s voice and tinkling string instruments from Nepal. It was an amazing way to start your day! Our monthly Caboodler Days are our way of thanking our team, bringing everyone together to reconnect in person, share ideas and inspire one another.

We could not be more delighted to see a shift within our industry demonstrated by the positive impact our mostly female team is making today

  • Museum of London: Closing Weekends!

Opportunity One of London’s most popular museums, The Museum of London at the Barbican’s London Wall, approached us about running two free weekend festivals – “London’s Greatest Weekends” - before shutting their doors for the last time. The museum set out to “go out with a bang, not a whimper”, after welcoming museum lovers, tourists, local communities and schools since 1976. Ambition Kit & Caboodle are great fans of the existing museum and wanted to support ways of helping its public, staff and volunteers say “goodbye” to some of its most beloved exhibits, whilst also celebrating the museum’s history and exciting new future at West Smithfield. How The Museum saw over 13,000 people coming in to celebrate its final music weekend in December, making it the Museum’s busiest weekend ever. As well as celebrating 50 years of London music and dance, there was free family fun for all – face-painting, talks, parties, arts, crafts, games and competitions. The Museum was open for 24 hours for the first time in its history. This allowed visitors one last chance to visit the museum’s free exhibitions, as well as see star objects; from the Selfridges Art Deco lift to Tom Daley’s swimming trunks; Roman Bucklersbury Mosaic to the 2012 Olympic Cauldron. Other final festivities included London’s biggest table football competition, DJ sets from Sisu and a late-night cinema festival and Q&A with director Gerard Johnson. The final weekend included a couple of epic parties for the museum’s key supporters, as well as current and former staff members. It closed on 4 December with a lively procession to the doors where there were speeches by Sharon Ament, the Director, tears and laughter, and a confetti cannon, before the doors shut for the last time. The museum will reopen at West Smithfield under a new name – the London Museum. It will welcome its first visitors to a festival curated by Londoners in late 2025, and will open to the public in 2026.

  • Kings Cross Christmas

OPPORTUNITY Kit & Caboodle were approached by Argent, to lead the 2022 festive season at Kings Cross, one of London’s most popular destinations. The brief included developing a “Club Curling” activation, which will run until February 2023. Working in partnership with the King Cross estate owners/managers, we proposed site-wide lighting and way-finding, novel, seasonally-themed Instagram moments on the Canal Side steps, a hero Christmas Tree and the build, running and operation of “Club Curling” together with its new accompanying bar. We were also asked to decorate all the resident business/office trees across the site. AMBITION To design and deliver an elevated site-wide festive and Club Curling activation, that would offer an all-time heightened seasonal experience. Highly effective site-wide lighting tied together all elements of our campaign, and worked with the wider Shop Off Piste creative platform. HOW Carefully curated way-finding that clearly led guests from Kings Cross up to Coal Drops Yard and the Club Curling activation. We created a strong visual identity which tied together all of the on-site elements including the highly acclaimed neon scribble tree as part of the site-wide lighting which was designed to echo the colour palette and neon decorations of our 45ft high feature tree in Coal Drops Yard. The tree has been decorated using playful Christmas emblems such as bobble hats created in neon. Club Curling has been elevated with the lanes turned around to face a focal central point of a cool winter lounge, including a feature faux fireplace. Every detail was considered from colour washing of the colour lanes down to staff uniforms and even strawberry-themed hot chocolates.
